Where this material ends up

Tube, profile and sheet are not products on their own — they are part of a job. Below is what this material becomes across industries: counters, process lines, railings, machine frames.

Food and Beverage Plants

304 for washed lines, 316 for salty cleaning

Product-contact lines are washed often; the general answer is 304 (Cr 17.5–19.5% · Ni 8.0–10.5%). For salty or acidic cleaning, 316 (Mo 2.0–2.5%). Transfer lines are made from Ø16–76.1 mm tube, platform and stair frames from 15×15–80×80 mm profile, tank shells from sheet. Send the grade and size and we'll cut it and ship.

Typical grade
AISI 304 / EN 1.4301 · AISI 316 / EN 1.4401

Housing from sheet, frame from profile, line from tube

For machine housings in dry interiors, 430 (Cr 16.0–18.0%) is suitable; where there is washdown or damp, use 304. Covers and panels are folded from sheet, frames made from 15×15–80×80 mm profile, fluid lines run in Ø16–76.1 mm tube. Choose 304 for welded frames: 430 welds less well than 304. Send the grade, size and quantity.

Typical grade
AISI 304 / EN 1.4301 · AISI 430 / EN 1.4016

Wet worktops: 304, not 430

In a commercial kitchen the surface gets wet and washed; 430 is not suitable for wet areas or food contact, so use 304 (Cr 17.5–19.5% · Ni 8.0–10.5%). Tops are folded from sheet, legs and frames made from 15×15–80×80 mm profile, shelf supports from Ø16–76.1 mm tube. Send the grade and size and we'll cut it to length.

Typical grade
AISI 304 / EN 1.4301

Outdoors 304, on the coast 316

Outdoors, a railing is exposed to rain and damp; 430 is not suitable outdoors. 304 for general outdoor work, 316 (Mo 2.0–2.5%) on the coast and in chlorinated air. Handrails are made from Ø16–76.1 mm round tube, uprights from 15×15–80×80 mm profile. Send the environment and the size and we'll pick the grade together.

Where chlorides are present, 304 is not enough

On a line carrying aggressive fluid, 304 pits wherever chlorides are present. 316 is chosen for this environment (Mo 2.0–2.5% · Ni 10.0–13.0%). Lines are made from Ø16–76.1 mm tube, tank linings from sheet. Send the fluid and the size and we'll confirm the grade together.

Permanently wet floors: 304

430 is not used on permanently wet floors; wet areas are outside its range. Channel bodies are folded from 304 sheet (Cr 17.5–19.5% · Ni 8.0–10.5%); where the water is chlorinated or salty, 316. Gratings and supports are made from 15×15–80×80 mm profile, drain lines from Ø16–76.1 mm tube. Send the grade and size.

Body frame from profile, cladding from sheet

Trailers and bodies are exposed to road salt and damp; 430 is not suitable outdoors. 304 for frames and fittings, 316 (Mo 2.0–2.5%) on salted roads and coastal routes. Body frames are made from 15×15–80×80 mm profile, inner and outer cladding from sheet. The listed profiles have a wall thickness of 0.5–1.5 mm; let's check any load-bearing spot together.

Auxiliary lines: 304, salty water: 316

The auxiliary lines of an energy plant (cooling and process water, cable supports, guards) run in damp conditions; the general answer is 304 (Cr 17.5–19.5% · Ni 8.0–10.5%). On chlorinated or salty water lines, 316 (Mo 2.0–2.5%). Water lines are made from Ø16–76.1 mm tube, cable supports from 15×15–80×80 mm profile, guards from sheet. Send the line type and size and we'll pick the grade together.

In salt spray, 316

In salty, damp air 304 pits. For deck and quay fittings the grade goes to 316 (Mo 2.0–2.5% · Ni 10.0–13.0%). Handrails and guardrails are made from Ø16–76.1 mm tube, supports from 15×15–80×80 mm profile, guards from sheet. 316 is sourced on request: send the size and quantity.

Typical grade
AISI 316 / EN 1.4401

Damp, dust and acidic water: 304 and 316

Damp, dust and acidic process water are hard on plant equipment; 304 (Cr 17.5–19.5% · Ni 8.0–10.5%) for general platform work. On acidic water lines, 316 (Mo 2.0–2.5%). Conveyor platforms and railings are made from 15×15–80×80 mm profile and Ø16–76.1 mm tube, guards and channel covers from sheet. Send the grade and size.

For interior panels of white goods and small appliances, 430 is suitable and economical (Cr 16.0–18.0%); on surfaces that meet water and food (dishwasher tubs, washing-machine drums), 304. Bodies and panels are formed from sheet, heater and handle lines run in Ø16–76.1 mm tube. Send the grade, thickness and size.
